Coronavirus shock at the UN General Assembly

A case of coronavirus was detected in the Brazilian delegation, who made the first speech at the UN General Assembly held in New York.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been the target of criticism arrows with his attitude since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic. Bolsonaro, who came to the agenda with statements belittling the epidemic despite contracting the virus himself, refusing to be vaccinated and not acting in accordance with the mask rule, is one of the most striking names of the UN General Assembly in New York.

In a news that came yesterday evening, there was information that a person in the delegation of the anti-vaccine Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who was in New York to attend the United Nations (UN) Summit, tested positive for the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19). Diplomatic sources shared the information that the person in the delegation had no contact with Bolsanaro and is currently in quarantine.

After Bolsonaro’s speech, the lectern and microphone were disinfected by the staff

According to the news that was reflected in the world press later, this person is Brazilian Health Minister Marcelo Quiroga. The Brazilian government said in a statement that the minister is in good health and will remain in isolation in New York. It was announced that the rest of the Brazilian delegation tested negative.

It is known that the Minister of Health, Marcelo Quiroga, had only a single dose of vaccine and had it done in January. President Bolsonaro, on the other hand, made a statement that ‘Vaccination is a medical and individual decision, no one can be forced to be vaccinated’ and said that there is no vaccine and that he does not intend to be.

On the other hand, although government officials deny the situation, news and images from New York show that Marcelo Quiroga is in close contact with President Bolsonaro. As if that wasn’t enough, a Brazilian journalist announced on his social media account that the minister stayed at the same hotel with US President Biden and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and even shook hands with Boris Johnson before Quiroga’s test was positive.

Marcelo Quiroga, on the other hand, told CNN Brazil that as a precaution, he followed the mask rule in all his meetings.

Bolsonaro is among more than 100 leaders who have come to New York to attend the 76th UN General Assembly Talks this year.
